Announcements

FUMC Small Groups - Anyone is welcome to join!

Please join one of our Small Groups!
Our community has regular times of dedicating ourselves to hear God's voice, as we seek His mercy and guidance for ourselves and for this church. There are many different opportunities for us to pray together, study his word, fellowship, connect with each other on many levels and all are welcome. Please phone Belinda at the church office for locations.

Weekly Meetings:

Tuesdays at 7:00 pm -- this is the St. George Small group which is for our Young Adults! Typically the first meeting of the month is a potluck at 6:00 pm and the rest of the month the meetings are at 7:00 pm.

Wednesdays at 7:30 pm -- our Youth meet here at the church every other week for a bible study, games and other fun activities centred around what it means to be a teenager in this crazy world how God fits in! On the alternating weeks, we get together with the youth at Sherbrooke Mennonite church and meet at Peace Mennonite Church and do pretty much the same thing and transportation is usually provided. Please call the office if you have any questions.

Thursdays at 7:00 pm -- this is a Listening Prayer group which practices different forms of prayer (Intercession, Declarative prayer, etc.) (led by Jon and Janna Janzen)

Monthly Meetings:

Prayer MeetingAnyone can attend this prayer meeting on the first Monday of every month at 7:30 pm in the Church Basement (led by Rose Bergen). We gather for a time of prayer and our main focus is our church life and the community around us, we look forward to seeing you.

World Day of Prayer 2013 - Friday March 1, 2013 at 1:00 pm

This day is organized by Christian women of many different denominations. This year we will be praying for the country and people of France, and we will be gathering together at Martin Luther Church, 505 East 46 Avenue, Vancouver, BC. Please join us for a service of prayer followed by refreshments.

Lenten Prayer Meetings

Every Wednesday morning at 9:00 am we will be meeting in the sanctuary for a time of Lenten prayers. Everyone is welcome to join our Pastor Lydia Cruttwell for a time of reflection and devotion, meditating on the way of the cross and what it means to grow deeper in our personal relationship with God during this time of Lent.

Prayer Week 2013 - January 7 to 10. All are welcome to join us for our prayer services.

As we enter into 2013, we'd like to set aside some time as a church to invite God into our lives and to listen to His guidance.

There are all sorts of opportunities to pray in this coming week, including Monday night at 7:30 (in the church basement), 10:00 am on Wednesday (in German), and Thursday night at 7:30 pm (a Listening Prayer meeting in the church basement). Also, every midday from Monday to Thursday Lydia will be leading a brief (15 minute or so) prayer adapted from the Celtic Daily Prayers of the Northumbria Community. During each of these prayers we will be using Psalm 90 as a guiding text. Please feel free to attend any or all of these sessions, as we commit ourselves into God's hands in 2013.

Sunday School 'Being a Faithful Church' Sessions:

Following last year's MC Canada conference in which we discussed the "twelve paths and six ditches" on the road to good interpretation of scripture, we're going to be having a four-week Sunday school series on this material, using two case studies (apartheid/the civil rights movement, and state-sanctioned violence/pacifism) as a way of testing our interpretive framework.   This is exciting material, and our responses to the studies will be sent on to Willard Metzger of MC Canada, so do come out!  Sessions start Sunday January 20th and will run from 9-10:15am in the Education Building.
