New Sermon Series: The Simon Peter Story!

Christ is Risen! Having celebrated Easter and the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, we're now embarking on a 12-week sermon series on one of Jesus' closest disciples, Simon. Also called Peter (aka The Rock, which is one of my favourite Biblical nicknames ever!). This former-fisherman-turned-Jesus-follower-turned-early-church-leader has quite the story, from his dramatic calling in a sinking boat in the lake of Gennasaret (that's this week's sermon!) to his denial of Christ just before the Crucifixion to his receiving the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and becoming a powerful preacher to both the Jewish and Gentile people.

Come join us as we learn about this simple man and his great leaps of faith (and his even greater slip-ups and failures), and see how even his weak and shaky faith was used by God in powerful ways.

Last Lenten Prayer Meeting -- This Wednesday at 9am!

Come and join us in the Sanctuary for our last Lenten Prayer meeting of Lent 2013 -- this Wednesday March 20th, at 9am. Together we will reflect on Jesus' road to the cross, and Jesus' call to us to "turn from our selfish ways, take up your cross and follow". (Mt. 16:24)

Easter Services

Easter is coming!

As we come to end of Lent and look towards Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we'll be having a number of special services to commemorate the most important holiday in the Christian calendar. Please take note of these services, and feel free to come to (and invite your friends to) any (or all!) of them:

Thursday, March 28th, 7:30pm -- Joint Footwashing Service (FUMC/FUSMC)

As part of our Anabaptist heritage, we celebrate Maundy Thursday (when Jesus, in the gospel of John, washed his disciples feet) by washing one another's feet and letting our feet be washed in a powerful symbol of what it means to serve and to be served in the name of Christ. This service takes place in both Spanish and English (with translation), and footwashing will occur in gender-specific groups.

Good Friday, March 29th, 10:30am -- Good Friday Service at Culloden MB Church (6060 Culloden St.)

This is a joint service with the five local churches involved in supporting Place of Refuge, our second-stage recovery house for men coming out of addiction. We will join together at the foot of the cross to worship Jesus, who gave himself up so that we all might have new life.

Good Friday, March 29th, 8pm -- Tenebrae Service

A quiet, contemplative service which uses scripture and action to meditate on the death of Jesus. This will take place in the sanctuary, and it is recommended that you bring small flashlights as the service will end in darkness.

Easter Sunday, March 31st, 10:30am

Easter Sunday ServiceWe will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus together through word, song, and scripture. Come and join with us in proclaiming that He is Risen!

Check out the 'Sermons' Page!

We're slowly getting ourselves up to speed, technologically, and figuring out the best way to record and share some of the great sermons we're privileged to hear on Sundays at First United Mennonite. So, do remember to head on over to the 'Sermons' tab on a regular basis and see what's there! Our most recent offering is from Willard Metzger, Executive Director of Mennonite Church Canada.
