Welcome! Willkommen! Bienvenidos!

Harmony, Unity, Wholeness, and Justice, Peace, and Salvation—all are Shalom. Welcome to FUMC, where it is our desire to be a place of Shalom for all, a faith community joining together in the movement towards God’s vision for the world.

Special Christmas Services!

All are welcome to the following special services for Christmas and beyond!

Christmas Eve Service: A candlelight service of scripture and song. 6:30pm on Saturday December 24th.

Christmas Day Service: A traditional Christmas morning service, made all the more special this year because Christmas falls on a Sunday! 10am on Sunday December 25th.

Christmas Day Potluck: All who do not have family gatherings today are welcome to join us for a casual potluck. Bring a dish to share and join us as we celebrate Christ's birth! Starts at 11:30am in the church basement, on Sunday December 25th.

New Year's Day Service : On Sunday, January 1st, our regular service at FUMC will be cancelled, and we'll be joining the joint service at Sherbrooke Mennonite Church (along with the Vancouver Vietnamese Mennonite Church). Service begins at 10:30am at 7155 Sherbrooke St., and there's a Soup&Bun lunch afterwards.

Helping and Giving this Christmas Season

For Christians, the Christmas season is about much more than big turkey dinners and lots of gifts under the tree -- it is about receiving Jesus, the greatest gift ever given, and about giving gifts of peace, joy, and hope to those in need. If you are looking to spread the joy this Christmas season, consider making a contribution to several organisations doing good work caring for those on the margins here in Vancouver and throughout the world:

Inner Hope -- Supporting at-risk youth in East Vancouver
Place of Refuge -- second-stage recovery house for men recovering from drug and alcohol addictions
Kingcrest International Neighbours -- English Language Learning and Community Building for immigrants, newcomers, temporary workers, and visitors.
Mennonite Central Committee -- Development and Relief work in BC and around the world

Thanks be to God for all those working to make our city and our world a better place!

A Prayer for Peace (attributed to Francis of Assisi)

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

We give Thanks!

On this Thanksgiving Weekend, we give thanks for our Triune God -- Father, Son and Spirit -- who created us, saved us, and sustain us day by day.

We give thanks for the gift of life, for the gift of health, for the gift of daily bread, and we pray for all those who are facing death, all those suffering from ill health, all those who lack the basic necessities of life. Help us to help them and care for them, O Lord.

We give thanks for your creation, for the beautiful colours of fall and the blessings of the harvest. Help us to be good stewards of this world, O God, and to live simply.

We give thanks for love, friendship, and family, O Lord, and we pray that you might open our eyes to see those who are lonely and extend our tables to welcome in the stranger and the one on the margins.

We give thanks!
