One City, One Message: Welcoming the Stranger

This Sunday (June 11th) churches all over Vancouver are going to be preaching and talking about the theme of welcoming the stranger, based on Matthew 25:35 -- "I was a stranger and you invited me in." What does it mean to truly and faith-fully welcome people (and be welcomed) in a city like Vancouver that can often feel lonely and isolated. Come join us at 10am this Sunday as we hear from Aften & Greg Thiessen about this important topic! \

Praying with Paul (Eastertide Sermon Series)

Between Easter and Pentecost this year, we're learning to "Pray with Paul" -- looking at the prayers in Paul's letters to the early church, and seeing what they might have to teach us about being in communion with our Triune Lord. Here's the full rundown of our spring sermons:

April 23rd: Introduction to "Praying with Paul" (Lydia Cruttwell)
April 30th: Praying with Paul 2 (Aften Thiessen) -- Col. 1:9-14
May 7th: The Ascension of Christ and It's Significance (Johannes Stolz)
May 14th: Prayers of Paul 3 (Aften Thiessen) -- Eph 3:14-21
May 21st: Prayers of Paul 4 (Lydia Cruttwell) -- 1 Thess 3:9-13
[NOTE: this service will be up at Camp Squeah during our annual church retreat -- see the announcement below]
May 28th: Prayers of Paul 5 (Lydia Cruttwell) -- Romans 15:14-33

And then, we'll be joining our brothers and sisters in FUSMC for a joint Pentecost service at 4:30 pm on June 4th -- praying and celebrating the coming of the Spirit together!

Camp Squeah Church Retreat

Our FUMC Church Retreat -- held annually on the Victoria Day long weekend in May -- is coming up quickly! Registration sheets are now available in the church foyer, and are due in to the church office or Danny Hildebrand by May 12th. Come join us up at beautiful Camp Squeah as we rest, play, and pray together!

Mother's Day Flowers (Fundraising for Kingcrest)

Kingcrest International Neighbours, an ESL ministry that runs out of our education, is doing a fundraiser for Mother's Day!

Sign up sheets are on the door in the foyer and you can get a lovely cyclamen plant to pick up on Sunday May 14th and deliver to someone you know who is a biological (or spiritual) mother to you. Suggested donation is $10-20.

God says: “Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, I who took them up in my arms; but they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of human kindness, with bands of love. I was to them like those who lift infants to their cheeks. I bent down to them and fed them.”
~ Hosea 11:3-4
