FUMC is Hiring: Full Time Co-Pastor

Are you excited to help a church revision and deeply consider what it means to be Christ’s example of peace? Do you have a heart for welcoming people of diverse backgrounds into community?

Our church (FUMC) is looking for a co-pastor to engage and serve our culturally diverse urban neighbourhood. We hold to the Anabaptist theology, are members of Mennonite Church BC and Mennonite Church Canada, and are looking for a pastor to join our team as we continue to develop our relationships with Christ, each other and the community.

Ideal candidates would have the following:

- Capacity to relate to various age groups and cultures
- Experience working in a church setting – in the areas of preaching and worship, pastoral care, nurturing gifts within the laity
- Commitment to Anabaptist theology and practice.
- Post-secondary religious education

We are looking for someone who is outgoing and can relate to a variety of people. Someone who has a missional outlook and a servant’s heart. We are willing to look outside the box in the way that we do church, as long as it includes following Jesus and his teachings.

For more details on the position, click '1 attachment' at the bottom of this post and download the pdf.

Please submit letters of interest and résumés to Liz, Pastor Search Committee Member, via email (lizepp@gmail.com) by July 28, 2017.

Job Opportunity: Community Engagement Worker

Are you interested in engaging with neighbourhood kids and helping to show the love of God in South Vancouver? If so, please consider becoming our new "Community Engagement Worker" -- a part time position which involves our youth drop-in centre and our monthly community dinner programs, as well as other opportunities for missional neighbourhood engagement. See attached for more details and where to submit a resume -- applications are due in by Friday July 20th!

Praying Together

Every Tuesday morning at 7am, you are invited to join Adam in the sanctuary to pray for our church, our neighbourhoods, and the world. Prayer lasts until about 7:45am, and there's coffee (and sometimes muffins!) afterward.

Also, on Wednesday August 8th, we have our monthly "Prayer and Communion" service (led by Lydia) in the church basement at 7:30pm.

Please join us in the crucial practice of making our thanksgivings and petitions known to our Heavenly Father!

MCC Warehouse Volunteer Day (Thursday August 8th)

Let's join in the good work of the MCC -- peace, relief and development in the name of Christ - by helping out at their Abbotsford warehouse! We'll leave from Vancouver at 9am, and aim to get back at 4pm, and carpooling is available. If you would like to go, please let Lydia know after she returns on August 2nd. If you can't go, but would still like to contribute, please put donations for relief kits (i.e. new bath soaps, adult toothbrushes, new bath towels in bright or dark colours) in the white container in the foyer. More details on what can be donated can be found at mcccanada.ca/get-involved/kits.

New Church Name! (Coming Soon)

On Sunday June 3rd, our membership voted 80% in favour of adopting a new name, "Peace Church on 52nd". We are grateful to be moving forward with a new name that we believe will help us reach out to our neighbours more effectively, but also recognise that this change is hard for some of us -- we've been "FUMC" for 80 years now!

We still need to do some work to officially 'launch' our new name (with new signage, a new website, etc.), and we're hoping to do that in the fall of this year. In the meantime, we'll continue to be "First United Mennonite Church" in all our official documents (including on donations), although we'll start informally referring to ourselves as "Peace Church on 52nd" in our services and meetings.

May God guide us in this change and in our revitalisation!
