FUMC is Hiring: Full Time Co-Pastor

Are you excited to help a church revision and deeply consider what it means to be Christ’s example of peace? Do you have a heart for welcoming people of diverse backgrounds into community?

Our church (FUMC) is looking for a co-pastor to engage and serve our culturally diverse urban neighbourhood. We hold to the Anabaptist theology, are members of Mennonite Church BC and Mennonite Church Canada, and are looking for a pastor to join our team as we continue to develop our relationships with Christ, each other and the community.

Ideal candidates would have the following:

- Capacity to relate to various age groups and cultures
- Experience working in a church setting – in the areas of preaching and worship, pastoral care, nurturing gifts within the laity
- Commitment to Anabaptist theology and practice.
- Post-secondary religious education

We are looking for someone who is outgoing and can relate to a variety of people. Someone who has a missional outlook and a servant’s heart. We are willing to look outside the box in the way that we do church, as long as it includes following Jesus and his teachings.

Pictures/Video for our New Website

We're currently working on a new website to go along with our new name, Peace Church on 52nd! That means you'll see some people around our buildings taking pictures and even some video of us. If you don't want images of yourself posted on our website, please let Lydia, Adam, or Jonathan Penner know.

Upcoming Community Events -- Neighbourhood Bread Giveaway and Community Dinner

This Sunday from 12-1:30, we're going to be offering free coffee and giving away bread on the front lawn of the Education Building -- this is a chance for us to show love to our neighbours!

Also, come join us on Thursday Sept 20th at 6pm for our first Community Dinner this fall... This is a wonderful chance to get to know your fellow church members better, and to build relationships with those in our neighbourhood! If you'd like to help out with setup, cooking, or cleanup, just contact Al Fleming or Lydia Cruttwell.

Fall Book and Bible Studies

We've got two exciting studies this fall! Adam will be leading a Thursday evening book study on Brian Rosner's "Known by God: A Biblical Theology of Personal Identity," and Lydia will be leading a Bible and Poetry study on Wednesday nights, taking an in-depth look at the Lord's Prayer. Contact the office if you'd like more details!

MCC Festival for World Relief! (Sept 14-15, at the TRADEX in Abbotsford)

Ways you can be involved:

1. Prepare Baked Goods -- see poster on the downstairs bulletin board. Labels are available in the church office, and Lydia will be coordinating the dropoff and delivery of baked goods (as well as a 'church baking day' on Wednesday Sept 12th.
2. Volunteer -- contact if you would like to volunteer at the event
3. Cyclathon -- Sign up at to ride a 20 or 50km route on Saturday and help provide food for displaced families in Syria.
4. Attend the festival, eat delicious food and buy wonderful, one-of-a-kind goods -- all proceeds go to support relief, development and peace projects in over 50 countries around the world!
