Job Opportunity: Community Engagement Worker

Are you interested in engaging with neighbourhood kids and helping to show the love of God in South Vancouver? If so, please consider becoming our new "Community Engagement Worker" -- a part time position which involves our youth drop-in centre and our monthly community dinner programs, as well as other opportunities for missional neighbourhood engagement. See attached for more details and where to submit a resume.

Let's Eat Together!

Two upcoming opportunities to meet and build relationship around the dinner table:

Community Dinner : Our next Community Dinner will be on Thursday June 28th at 6pm in the church building-- come on out for some good food and a chance to get to know your neighbours and church family! If you'd like to help with the cooking or cleanup on this meal, please talk to Al Fleming

Dinners for 8 : Over the summer, some of us are hosting casual potluck dinners, so that we can continue to deepen our relationships with one another. Pink signup sheets are available in the basement next to the kitchen, so please sign up soon! If you are interested in hosting a dinner, please let Lydia know.

Upcoming Special Services

June 24th: After a regular Sunday service, we'll be having our congregational meeting, so please stay for pizza and some discussion about our committees, our vision and values, and other important topics!

July 1st: We'll be having a joint service with Sherbrooke Mennonite Church, including communion. Pastor Phil Routly from Sherbrooke will be preaching!

New Church Name! (Coming Soon)

On Sunday June 3rd, our membership voted 80% in favour of adopting a new name, "Peace Church on 52nd". We are grateful to be moving forward with a new name that we believe will help us reach out to our neighbours more effectively, but also recognise that this change is hard for some of us -- we've been "FUMC" for 80 years now!

We still need to do some work to officially 'launch' our new name (with new signage, a new website, etc.), and we're hoping to do that in the fall of this year. In the meantime, we'll continue to be "First United Mennonite Church" in all our official documents (including on donations), although we'll start informally referring to ourselves as "Peace Church on 52nd" in our services and meetings.

May God guide us in this change and in our revitalisation!
